Letter 001 - Internet As An Income Source
Be prepared for your future career
Hello everyone,
Welcome to my newsletter, and thank you for subscribing!
Since this service is still in beta, I won’t be sharing any technical content this week. Instead, I’d like to share a few observations that have been on my mind lately.
Recently, there has been a trend on Twitter where 18-year-olds share stories about making their first $100,000 or $200,000 online.
I keep hearing about teenage programmers. Not long ago, I read about a 12-year-old coder. Children are now learning programming in elementary school, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see teenage software engineers becoming increasingly common in the future.
Yesterday, I came across a discussion about the challenges YouTubers face when trying to grow their businesses. One post stood out to me. It was from a 14-year-old boy in India who had started earning money from his YouTube channel. However, because he records his videos using his father’s phone, he struggles to find enough time to create more content.
I was also watching skateboarding during the Tokyo Olympics. The winner was a teenager. During an interview, he said he was happy because he had finally proven to his mother that skateboarding was not a waste of time.
The boy from India made me smile. There was something incredibly genuine about him. He seemed completely unaware of how impressive his achievement was. His story is a reminder that excuses often matter less than we think.
The skateboarder’s story teaches a different lesson. If you’re passionate enough about something, you can build a life around it—even when others see it as nothing more than a hobby. The difference is often how much you truly want it.
The internet has created almost unlimited opportunities. YouTubers, gamers, online sellers, creators, developers—the barriers to entry have never been lower.
These are early signs of much larger changes taking place around us, especially when combined with automation and emerging technologies. I’ll explore these ideas in more detail in future newsletters. For now, I simply wanted to raise awareness and set the stage for what’s coming.
See you next time!
